P.O.W.E.R invites Tri-Cities residents to town hall on June 26
The Lake Michigan P.O.W.E.R. Coalition invites Tri-Cities residents to discuss concerns about wind power plant development in Lake Michigan at a Town-Hall meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26.
The meeting will be held at the new Ferrysburg City Hall. Following a brief presentation on facts about the current proposal and alternatives to near-shore wind power plant development, the program will be open to conversation moderated by Jeff Stille, Ferrysburg mayor.
“We want to provide an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the proposal to build 50 square-mile wind power plants within miles of the Ottawa and Oceana county shorelines,” said Jeff Hodges, coalition board member. “There is much information to share beyond the sales presentations given over the past few months,” added Hodges.
The program will conclude by 11 a.m. The (new) Ferrysburg City Hall is located at 17290 Roosevelt Rd, Spring Lake, in the former Ferrysburg Elementary School.
The Lake Michigan P.O.W.E.R. Coalition is committed to protecting Lake Michigan, one of our state’s greatest natural resources. The Coalition is against any off-shore wind power plant proposals that could negatively impact Lake Michigan’s waters, shoreline ecosystem, regional economy, and quality of life. Through education, research, and public dialogue we will work with elected officials to protect Lake Michigan and our surrounding communities while encouraging safer, more efficient, clean energy solutions for Michigan’s future. P.O.W.E.R. Volunteers Get the Word Out During Memorial Day Weekend

During the three-day holiday weekend, hundreds of people learned about the nearshore wind power plant proposal that threatens the environment and economy of coastal West Michigan communities. More than a dozen volunteers staffed a table at the top of Pentwater’s Village Green each of the three days to answer questions, hand out fact sheets and explain P.O.W.E.R.’s opposition to the Aegir proposal.
Volunteers distributed more than 300 t-shirts and yards signs to a growing number of indviduals who understand the potential impacts of such industrial development in Lake Michigan. Hundreds of individuals also signed a statement supporting P.O.W.E.R.’s position on the issue.
Additionally, the P.O.W.E.R. Rally drew a capacity crowd to the upper level of the Antler Bar in Pentwater, where attendees listened to a presentation made by P.O.W.E.R. president Jeffrey R. Hoenle and Board member Jeff Hodges.
Similar events are being planned for other involved lakeshore communities.

First P.O.W.E.R Town Hall Draws Nearly 200 Shoreline Residents
Designed to bring together Pentwater and Ludington area residents concerned about irresponsible wind power plant development in Lake Michigan , the Lake Michigan P.O.W.E.R. Coalition’s (LMPC) first Town
Hall Meeting held Monday, April 26 drew nearly 200 people.

Bob Neal, P.O.W.E.R. volunteer moderator, takes a question from a Pentwater resident at the LMPC Ludington Town Hall Meeting April 26.
Attendees from as far south as Montague and from easterly communities such as Scottville and Custer included professors, school teachers, business owners, local economic development officials, chamber of
commerce staff, retirees, and year-round and seasonal residents.
Following a presentation by LMPC board member, Jeff Hodges, the floor was opened to a Q & A period moderated by Ludington resident Bob Neal. Some 90 minutes of dialogue helped those in attendance learn
about many aspects of the Aegir project and its potential impacts to Mason and Oceana Counties –and the millions of annual visitors to those counties.
“This event demonstrates beyond a doubt that a broad cross-section of Michigan residents have very strong objections to the Aegir project proposed by Scandia Wind Offshore and Havgul,” said Jeff Hoenle, LMPC president. “It’s obvious to all who learn the issues that it is not a matter of geography, it is a matter of the wrong organization in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Ludington Daily News coverage of the event is here.
The LMPC will hold additional forums. If you would like to schedule a presentation, please contact info@protectwithpower.org
