The current Scandia Wind Aegir Project:
Scandia Wind Offshore (SWO) wishes to conduct studies in order to develop a 500 megawatt (MW) industrial wind power factory in the freshwater of Lake Michigan. The current Aegir II project proposes allocating a 50 square mile area of “public trust” bottom land in Lake Michigan for use by private for-profit corporations without competitive bidding. The area impacted would begin approximately six miles offshore of the southern aspect of the P. J. Hoffmaster State Park near Hickory Street, continue southward past the Grand Haven State Park, and end south of Lincoln Street in Ottawa county. The illustration below is from Scandia’s June 16th, 2010 Ottawa County public meeting presentation – turbine towers could be 300 to 450 feet tall, not including the blades.
