About Us

WHO WE ARE: Lake Michigan P.O.W.E.R. Coalition. POWER stands for Protect Our Water, Economy, and Resources. Lake Michigan POWER Coalition is a pending non-profit organization of concerned citizens, residents and business owners, committed to protecting Lake Michigan, one of our state and nation's greatest natural resources. We oppose any industrial off-shore wind power plant proposals that could negatively impact Lake Michigan's waters, regional economy, shoreline ecosystem, and quality of life. Through education, research, and dialogue we will work with the public and elected officials to protect Lake Michigan and surrounding communities while encouraging safer, more efficient, clean energy solutions and jobs for Michigan’s future.

The Scandia Threat

The Original Scandia Wind Aegir Project:

A 100 square mile wind power plant, over twice the area of the entire City of Grand Rapids, consisting of 200 turbine towers, each as tall as a 45 story skyscraper, making it the second largest “city” in Michigan.

The proposal: The Scandia proposal is not a tiny “wind farm” dotting the horizon. It would, in fact be the largest off-shore wind power plant in the world today. The proposed plan would be 3.7 miles off shore at the Ludington hydroelectric plant, less than 3 miles off shore at Mears State Park, to just 1.4 miles off shore at Silver Lake State Park. The grid stretches over 18 miles along the shoreline, and nearly 6 miles wide.

How big are the Turbine towers?

Scandia is proposing the “Clipper 10MW” turbine towers, the world’s largest to date.
Here’s an illustration of scale:
